This week in the studio I’ve been working on pieces for my fall/winter collection — chunky porcelain chains and layered blossom studs in moody, cozy tones that feel right for the season. The days feel shorter, the light has shifted, and being in the studio has felt like its own kind of retreat.
While I worked, I listened to The Surrender Experiment by Michael Singer. His story about learning to let go felt close to what I was experiencing with clay in my hands. You can guide the process for a while — smoothing, shaping, layering — but at some point you have to release it. The fire decides the rest.
That isn’t always easy. There are moments of frustration when I want the outcome to match exactly what I imagined. But there’s also relief in surrendering. A reminder that it’s enough to show up, create with care, and let the process unfold however it will.
Clay keeps teaching me that lesson: the beauty of not knowing. The freedom in realizing perfection isn’t the point — presence is.
And maybe that’s something for you to consider, too. Where in your life are you gripping too tightly, waiting for certainty before you begin? What would happen if you trusted the unknown instead, even just a little?
I filmed a new Studio Vlog while I was making these pieces — sharing both the process and the reflections that came with it.
